Welcome
Based in a sixth-floor studio with a panoramic view across to Edinburgh’s Corstorphine Hill, Camilla Seddon is an artist and illustrator who is deeply inspired by the natural beauty of Scotland. Her practice is rooted in close observation, whether capturing the city’s historic gardens or the expansive landscapes of the Scottish Borders.
Armed with a sketchbook, she regularly works on-site to document the plants, trees, and vistas that form the foundation of her finished studio pieces.
Creative Practice & Process
Watercolour is her preferred medium. Increasingly informed by the close study of found objects from the natural world, her self-generated studio work focuses on the intricate patterns and textures of organic forms, translating these elements into process-driven contemporary art.
Design Heritage
Before starting a full-time art practice 17 years ago, she spent over a decade in creative retail as a buyer and designer. That experience sharpened her eye for colour, pattern and detail, which now informs her freelance work. Moving to Edinburgh sparked a major creative shift, linking her design skills with a lifelong love of the outdoors. She trained in fashion and textiles at Manchester School of Art and completed an MA in Art History at the University of Edinburgh.
Commissions & Collaborations
Alongside an independent studio practice, she collaborates closely with commercial businesses and private individuals on bespoke projects. For example, she specialises in creating highly detailed, custom-illustrated maps that weave together wildlife, architectural vignettes, figures, and botanical elements into cohesive, evocative visual stories.
